Below are some common questions you may have about online sessions. If you can't find what you're looking for, you can contact me via the button below.

I Have A Question

I'm thinking about counseling...

Great question! Short answer: Just online.
Longer answer: I worked with clients in person before a cross country move led me to offer online sessions.  I'm so glad I did! They are more accessible and able to meet the busy woman where she is at - before her day starts, during a lunchbreak, or when the kids are in bed - and eliminate the need for another commute, childcare needs, or other complications.

Studies have shown that teletherapy (aka video sessions) can be just as effective as in person sessions. Some prospective clients have asked whether a video session removes the "personal feeling" and ability to address presenting needs. I'd say it depends on two things: your personal style and needs. Some people simply want to meet in person. And that's great! There are so many wonderful options available to you. This is why I plan a complimentary 15 minute consultation with every client. It gives you a chance to try out teletherapy to see if it may be a good fit for you and if your needs are the best fit for video sessions. I'll always be honest with you; my goal is to help you find hope and healing so you can thrive - regardless of whether that's with me or someone else.

Use the contact link here to request a consultation and ensure that you have two things: a private space to meet and an computer with an internet connection that can support video. (If you can stream Netflix, you should be fine.) No other paperwork is needed - that all comes before your first official session.

Virginia clients: I currently accept Optum, Oscar, United, and Anthem BCBS. If your insurance plan is not listed or if you prefer to utilize self-pay methods, we can discuss this during your consultation. Clients are welcome to utilize HSA, FSA, or HRA resources.
Missouri, South Dakota, and clients abroad: I currently do not participate in insurance plans. Clients are welcome to utilize HSA, FSA, or HRA resources. Pending your out of network coverage, you can request a superbill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

I'm now a client...

After our intial consultation, I will send you documentation to complete prior to your first session. Your first 50 minute session is an opportunity to share your story in depth.  We'll assess your hurts or struggles so we can best develop a plan for your Hope Focused Journey.
We typically begin with 8-10 weekly sessions, after which we re-evaluate according to your individual needs. (Some clients are ready to conclude; others will decide to extend for an additional time period).

I use a HIPAA compliant (secure, private, confidential) payment system designed specifically for counselors. A credit or debit card of your choosing is stored in this system, and you are automatically billed after each session.

Your personal information is important and I take confidentiality seriously. Your information is securely stored in HIPAA compliant software. The detailed information about this is in your initial paperwork. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
